General information
The selected Bolzstraße neighbourhood in the south of Heilbronn is typical of the building development of the pre-war and immediate post-war periods. In the project "BOHEI – The neighbourhood around Bolzstraße is rebuilding itself – Integrated resource-efficient urban development in the south of Heilbronn", a framework plan was developed in close consultation with residents and representatives of the disciplines involved. This plan combines the needs of residents with the requirements of a resource-efficient neighbourhood in the best possible way, while at the same time meeting urban planning specifications for affordable housing.

Research questions
- How can science, in cooperation with partners from the practical field, initiate changes in the city and examine them scientifically?
Cooperation
Type of co-creation
The entire process is designed collaboratively. From start to finish, creative and participatory methods are used to establish a common understanding and take action. A core team consisting of individuals with extensive experience and specific expertise drives the process by providing appropriate and creative support and guidance.
Society involvement
Organised civil society and/or local society exchange ideas with the project managers. The decision-making power lies with the scientists.

Experiences
Helpful insights & solutions
Experience with regard to process design
Recommended: Establish a close-knit cycle for coordination from the outset.
Experience with regard to the actors involved and their role in the process
Only through coordinated and intensive cooperation, right from the initial project idea, a good result can be achieved in all respects. This insight is already widely accepted in the minds of planners and project managers. The reasons why implementation is often lacking are probably economic and legal conditions.
Solutions/Success factors
The findings from the BOHEI research project have shown that the targeted transformation of an existing neighbourhood can only be successful, if systemic interactions between the areas under consideration (in the BOHEI project, these are the circular economy, the water cycle economy and land management) are taken into account and the various aspects from the different sub-areas are taken into consideration.
