Loft living space potential: 429,252 additional flats

Reading time:

The new federal government's ‘construction turbo’ is in readiness. Existing buildings in particular would offer enormous potential to quickly create new - and affordable - living space. A study by VELUX, carried out by the Berlin-based technology company Leaftech, has now revealed that 429,252 additional flats could be created if roofs were raised and extended. In order for this to be realised quickly and on a large scale, hurdles in building law, administration and structures would have to be removed. Simplified building regulations, swift approvals and reliable subsidies with clear conditions would ensure greater planning security in construction practice.
